It includes the preparation of the precursor materials through to raw material extraction and processing, their transport to the factory and the production itself, including the provision of all supplies and materials, energy, and the complete waste treatment or the residual waste during the stage of production.
This is an association EPD of the "Verband der Deutschen Lack- und Druckfarbenindustrie e.V." (Association of German Paint and Printing Ink Industry eV - VdL), for which a representative worst-case composition was determined within the calculation of the life cycle assessment. A range of products which have the highest environmental pollution have been taken into account.
A comparison with other products is only allowed by a similar application in the building. In principle, a comparison or evaluation of EPD data is only possible if all the datasets are created to be compared to EN 15804 and the product-specific features are considered.448This is an association EPD of the "Verband der Deutschen Lack- und Druckfarbenindustrie e.V." (Association of German Paint and Printing Ink Industry eV - VdL), situated in 60329 Frankfurt on the Main, Germany and is only valid for the products for plants in Germany which are represented in the worst-case composition.Foreground system:
Bonding agent on dispersion silicate-based is factory-made, liquid mixture made from one or more aqueous polymer dispersions, mineral fillers, water and additives. Solidification occurs by drying and filming the polymer bonding agent. The formed layer provides high adhesion between the finishing plaster and the subsoil. The range of the composition and the properties were determined by dispersion plasters manufacturers of the professional group "Putz und Dekor", which is part of the "Verband der deutschen Lack- und Druckfarbenindustrie e.V." (VdL). This environmental product declaration declares a representative worst-case composition for bonding agent on dispersion silicate-based.
Production phase - A1-A3
Bonding agent on dispersion silicate-based is manufactured in mixing plants in the following steps: 1. Filling the storage tanks or weighing bins, 2. transporting the input substances into the mixer, 3. dispersing and mixing, 4. Quality control and if necessary adjusting the consistency, 5. filling of the products in storage and transport containers, 6. loading and delivery. The raw materials are stored in silos, big bags, barrels or bags in the factory. They are metered and mixed according to the particular recipe. After the bottling and packaging plastic container - 18l) they are stored or directly shipped. The production of the product packaging is included in the LCA results.
Transport to construction site - A4
The transport distance to the warehouse is assumed to be 250 km. The transport distance from the warehouse to the construction site is 50 km.
Construction site - A5
The treatment of bonding agent on dispersion silicate-based is done almost exclusively manually. After the application of the product on the designated areas it is equalized with the appropriate tools and structured if necessary. Specific indications for the processing and further handling with this product are described in detail in the respective technical data sheet. The rules of the trade associations and the safety data sheets of the products should be considered. Apply protection measures to avoid contact with eyes and skin. The mass shall not get into the sewerage system, surface water or groundwater. The cleaning water of the equipment shall be collected according to the appendix in the technical data sheets and disposed of via the appropriate purification system. The remaining material is processed at the construction site because. The LCA results include the disposal of the residual material. In module A5 the emissions of the product's solvents as well as the treatment of the packaging is considered.
EoL - C4
Bonding agent on dispersion silicate-based is attached to the component. Separation of the individual layers is not possible but the disposability of the bonding agent on dispersion silicate-based is ensured. Therefore they can be deposited with the rest of construction waste. Landfilling of the declared product on the landfill for inert materials is modelled.
Credits - D
Credits resulting from incineration and recycling of packaging im A5 are declared in module D. For the waste incineration plant an R1-value of 0.6 is assumed.
Background system:
Electricity: Electricity is modelled according to the individual country-specific situations. The country-specific modelling is achieved on multiple levels. Firstly, individual energy carrier specific power plants and plants for renewable energy sources are modelled according to the current national electricity grid mix. Modelling the electricity consumption mix includes transmission / distribution losses and the own use by energy producers (own consumption of power plants and "other" own consumption e.g. due to pumped storage hydro power etc.), as well as imported electricity. Secondly, the national emission and efficiency standards of the power plants are modelled as well as the share of electricity plants and combined heat and power plants (CHP). Thirdly, the country-specific energy carrier supply (share of imports and / or domestic supply) including the country-specific energy carrier properties (e.g. element and energy content) are accounted for. Fourthly, the exploration, mining/production, processing and transport processes of the energy carrier supply chains are modelled according to the specific situation of each electricity producing country. The different production and processing techniques (emissions and efficiencies) in the different energy producing countries are considered, e.g. different crude oil production technologies or different flaring rates at the oil platforms.
Thermal energy, process steam: The thermal energy and process steam supply is modelled according to the individual country-specific situation with regard to emission standards and considered energy carriers. The thermal energy and process steam are produced at heat plants. Efficiencies for thermal energy production are by definition 100% in relation to the corresponding energy carrier input. For process steam the efficiency ranges from 85%, 90% to 95%. The energy carriers used for the generation of thermal energy and process steam are modelled according to the specific import situation (see electricity above).
Transports: All relevant and known transport processes are included. Ocean-going and inland ship transport as well as rail, truck and pipeline transport of bulk commodities are considered.
Energy carriers: The energy carriers are modelled according to the specific supply situation (see electricity above).
Refinery products: Diesel fuel, gasoline, technical gases, fuel oils, lubricants and residues such as bitumen are modelled with a parameterised country-specific refinery model. The refinery model represents the current national standard in refining techniques (e.g. emission level, internal energy consumption, etc.) as well as the individual country-specific product output spectrum, which can be quite different from country to country. The supply of crude oil is modelled, again, according to the country-specific situation with the respective properties of the resources.Bonding agent on dispersion silicate-based provides high adhesion between siliceous or mineral finishing plaster and the subsoil.Partly terminated systemAttributionalNoneAllocation - market valueAllocation - net calorific valueAllocation - exergetic contentAllocation - massForeground system: The production process does not deliver any co-products. The applied software model does not contain any allocation. During the combustion of packaging a multi-input allocation is used with a credit for electricity and thermal energy. The credits that occure through the final treatment of packaging are considered in Module D.
Background system: For the combined heat and power production, allocation by exergetic content is applied. For the electricity generation and by-products, e.g. gypsum, allocation by market value is applied due to no common physical properties. Within the refinery allocation by net calorific value and mass is used. For the combined crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids production allocation by net calorific value is applied.
For details please see the document "GaBi Databases Modelling Principles"All data used in the calculation of the LCI results refer to net calorific value.NoneGaBi Modelling PrinciplesEN 15804In the assessment, all relevant available data from production process are considered, i.e. all raw materials used, utilised thermal energy, and electric power consumption using best available LCI datasets.
The resulting packaging such as plastic films and paper and reusable wooden pallets are negligible and therefore not included in the LCA. The plastic container is included in the calculation: its production in A3 and final treatment in A5.
The sum of the neglected processes contributes less than 5% to the considered environmental impact categories.
