The data set covers all relevant process steps / technologies over the supply chain of the represented cradle to gate inventory with a good overall data quality. The inventory is mainly based on data gathered within research and industry projects and is completed, where necessary, by secondary data. This data set is based on primary data from internationally adopted production processes, connected with country specific electricity mixes.

The carbon fiber production is based on common industry practise representing the production in Europe (EU27) with electricity from hydropower. The precursor production is based on common industry practise and is modelled using Japanese electricity from hydropower.
The process includes the production of carbon fiber including the precursor production and all relevant flows. The production processes include spinning, stabilization, carbonization, surface treatment and sizing.
The production of CF is modelled according to Das (2011), Griffing (2010), Morgan (2005); yield from PAN to CF approximately 50%.
